Medication
All medications must be kept in the
school office. The school will make any reasonable effort to accommodate
the administering of simple medication. In some cases, it may
be requested that a parent or guardian come to school to administer
the medication. Parents must sign a medication authorization at
the office.
Standardized
Testing
Standardized testing is a part of
the regular school program from First Grade through Sixth Grade.
Parents will receive a copy of the test results after is completed.
In addition to this testing, the
school may require additional testing or evaluation to properly
identify potential giftedness or special needs.
Toys and
Games
Toys, games, cars, dolls, trading
cards, pug, magazines, footballs, etc. are not permitted in the
school without special permission. Kindergarten students have
a show and tell day on Fridays and they may bring one small item
or toy for this special activity.
Uniform
All students are required to be properly
dressed in the official uniform
of the Montessori School of North Miami. Substitute uniforms are
not permitted. If a student is forced to temporarily wear a non-standard
item, a note from the parent or guardian must be provided.
Jewelry
and Accessories
Students are not permitted to wear
jewelry to school, however, simple time telling watches are permitted
and encouraged. Girls may not wear any dangling or hoop style
earrings since they are distractive and dangerous; simple post-stud
earrings are permitted. Girls hair accessories must match the
uniform and not be distractive. Simple is best.
Field Trips
Only field trips of educational nature
that are directly related to the curriculum being taught will
be permitted. The cost the trip will be based on the number of
students participating. Trip money cannot be refunded after reservations
have been made and the costs determined.
Money and
Valuables
Students may not bring more money
than they need for lunch on Fridays. Students may not bring anything
of substantial value to school. The school is not responsible
for loss of personal property.
Visitors
All visitors to the Montessori School
of North Miami are required to first report to the office. Parents
are welcome to visit their child's classroom. An appointment must
be made since this can be somewhat disruptive to the normal routine.
Visitors to the building that are not parents or guardians require
an escort at all times.
Graduation
Requirements for graduation ceremony
will be informed to the parent or guardian two months prior graduation
day is scheduled.
Special
Events
Events such as, class parties, special
holiday's celebrations and others are announced in the monthly
calendar. Parent's cooperation will be requested in writing
as necessary.
Birthday
Parties
This special day will be celebrated
after lunch; parents may only bring cup, cakes without frosting,
drinks and cookies.
Library
BooksBooks borrowed from the Montessori
School of North Miami reading room are very valuable and must
be treated as such. The school will determine charges for lost
or damaged books.
Parent/Student
Handbook
The Montessori School of North Miami
publishes this handbook. Parents/Guardians are required to read
and abide by its contents. The school reserves the right to update,
modify or change information contained herein. At the conclusion
of this handbook there is a parent/guardian
signature sheet, which each parent/legal guardian is required
to sign. The signature sheet must be returned to the school office
as indicated.
